Our Work
Chicken Coop Program
Many small wild cat species face retaliatory killings when they come in contact with human settlements especially in the case of livestock issues. Across Pakistan, farmers, land owners and others often keep poultry as a major source of income to support their livelihood. Wild cats find unsafe poultry easy prey and thus hunt them often. This results in tension from the local community which typically retaliates by hunting down the cats and therefore, persecuting them. We support building of predator-proof enclosures which keep the chickens safe making it not possible for the small wild cats to make prey out of them. Resultantly, a case of human-wildlife cohabitation is born.
Awareness Program
We conduct awareness sessions and create educational material for mass awareness and knowledge with the hope that we sprout seeds of small wild cat conservation along the way. Find more out at our Resources Page
Rescue Capacity Building
During harvest events, weather catastrophes, human encroachments and more variables, many wildlife including Small Wild cats get affected adversely and often that results in individuals in need of rescue and rehabilitation. However, due to lack of proper rescue procedures in the country and mismanagement, many animals do not survive during the journey from the location of the incident to a proper veterinary hospital. In order to ease the process, we provide animal carriers and guidance to relevant stakeholders for example, villagers, local conservationists, wildlife department, people of interest and more.
Research
In Pakistan, there is a vast gap of research dedicated to small wild cats and henceforth, very little is known about this shy group of animals. Via Community questionnaires, surveys, camera trapping and more, we are trying to fill in the gaps of knowledge that exist within this group of animals especially with regards to their distribution, threats and biology.
Murals
We have a School mural planned soon and we are very excited about that!
Wildlife Road Signs
Another common threat to not just Small Wild Cats but various other animal groups across the globe is the run over by vehicles on roads or road kills as they are commonly called. In an attempt to try to decrease such happenings, we are now on our way to put up Wildlife road signs across multiple sites across the country, wherever there is a need.
If you personally know of any such location around your residence where you feel there is a need for our signs, Please email us and let’s get a sign over there.
Our Team
All this work would not be possible without the amazing team members at each study site who work tirelessly and often voluntarily to reduce threats facing our beloved felines and ensure they have a continued survival.
